Taliaferro County, Georgia was established in 1825, the county name originated from Greene, Hancock, Oglethorpe, Warren, and Wilkes Counties. The county was named after Colonel Benjamin Taliaferro (1750 – 1821), U.S. Congressman; a hero of the Revolutionary War. Taliaferro County has a total area of 195 square miles, with a total population of 1680 residents (and a population density of 8.62 residents per square mile).
