Wilkinson County, Georgia was established in 1803, the county name originated from Creek Cessions of 1802 and 1805. The county was named after General James Wilkinson (1757 – 1825), veteran of the Revolutionary War and of the War of 1812; Senior Officer of the U.S. Army; turned out to be an agent of the Spanish government. Wilkinson County has a total area of 447 square miles, with a total population of 9577 residents (and a population density of 21.43 residents per square mile).
