Towns County, Georgia was established in 1856, the county name originated from Rabun and Union Counties. The county was named after George Washington Towns (1801 – 54), governor of Georgia during the antebellum period. Towns County has a total area of 166 square miles, with a total population of 10495 residents (and a population density of 63.22 residents per square mile).
