Long County, Georgia was established in 1920, the county name originated from Liberty County. The county was named after Dr. Crawford Williamson Long (1815 – 78), in 1842 the first man to use diethyl ether as an anesthetic for dental surgery. Long County has a total area of 401 square miles, with a total population of 16048 residents (and a population density of 40.02 residents per square mile).
