Irwin County, Georgia was established in 1818, the county name originated from Creek Cessions of 1814 and 1818. The county was named after Jared Irwin (1751 – 1818), the governor who rescinded the Yazoo Act in 1796. Irwin County has a total area of 357 square miles, with a total population of 9600 residents (and a population density of 26.89 residents per square mile).
