Bartow County, Georgia was established in 1832, originating from Created from a portion of Cherokee County in 1832 and originally called Cass County after General Lewis Cass. The county was named after General Francis S. Bartow (1816 – 61), Confederatepolitical leader; first Confederate general killed in the American Civil War. Bartow County has a total area of 460 square miles, with a total population of 100661 residents (and a population density of 218.83 residents per square mile).
