About the County: Stark County, Illinois was founded in 1839. The county was named after Gen. John Stark (1728–1822), general in the American Revolutionary War, called the “Hero of Bennington”. The Stark County court complex is located in the county seat city of Toulon.

Formed from portions of Knox and Putnam County, the county has a reported population of 5994 residents and comprises a total area of 288 square miles within the state of Illinois.
