About the County: Shelby County, Illinois was founded in 1827. The county was named after Isaac Shelby (1750–1826), soldier in the American Revolutionary War and War of 1812; first and fifth Governor of Kentucky. The Shelby County court complex is located in the county seat city of Shelbyville.
