About the County: McHenry County, Illinois was founded in 1836. The county was named after Major William McHenry (c. 1771 – 1835), officer in during several campaigns against Native Americans and member of the Illinois legislature. The McHenry County court complex is located in the county seat city of Woodstock.

Formed from portions of Cook and LaSalle County, the county has a reported population of 308760 residents and comprises a total area of 604 square miles within the state of Illinois.
