About the County: Marshall County, Illinois was founded in 1839. The county was named after John Marshall (1755–1835), fourth and longest-serving Chief Justice of the United States, wrote opinion in Marbury v. Madison establishing the principle of judicial review. The Marshall County court complex is located in the county seat city of Lacon.
