About the County: Lawrence County, Illinois was founded in 1821. The county was named after Capt. James Lawrence (1781–1813), commander of the USS Chesapeake in the War of 1812. Famous for his command “Don’t give up the ship!”. The Lawrence County court complex is located in the county seat city of Lawrenceville.
