About the County: Jo Daviess County, Illinois was founded in 1827. The county was named after Joseph Hamilton Daveiss (1774–1811), commander of the Indiana Dragoons at the Battle of Tippecanoe. The Jo Daviess County court complex is located in the county seat city of Galena.
