About the County: Jasper County, Illinois was founded in 1831. The county was named after Sgt. William Jasper (c. 1750-79), American Revolutionary War soldier popularized by Parson Weems. The Jasper County court complex is located in the county seat city of Newton.

Formed from portions of Clay and Crawford County, the county has a reported population of 9698 residents and comprises a total area of 494 square miles within the state of Illinois.
