Ingham County was established in 1829. The county was originally formed from parts of Shiawassee County, Washtenaw County and unorganized territory. Ingham County was named after Samuel D. Ingham (1779-1860), U.S. Secretary of the Treasury in the Jackson Administration. The county has a total of 280895 residents, and makes up an area of 561 square miles.
