The county was named after Disputed; either James Harlan, Secretary of the Interior 1865-1866; or a revenue collector named Harlan who lived near Republican City. Harlan County has a reported population of 3513 residents, and makes up 553 square miles of Nebraska’s land area. The count court is located in the county seat city of Alma, Nebraska.
