About the County: DeKalb County, Illinois was founded in 1837. The county was named after Johann de Kalb (1721–1780), German soldier in the Continental Army who fought alongside Gilbert du Motier, marquis de Lafayette. The DeKalb County court complex is located in the county seat city of Sycamore.
